Math - Quarter one

Students will work toward mastering the following concepts:

  • Use place value to round to the nearest 10 and 100

  • Fluently add and subtract within 1,000

  • Solve two-step addition and subtraction word problems

  • Tell and write time to the nearest minute

  • Solve elapsed time word problems

  • Draw picture graphs and bar graphs to represent data

  • Measure to the nearest whole inch, half inch, and quarte​r inch

  • Gather measurement data and create a line plot

Literacy - Quarter one

Students will work toward mastering the following concepts during quarter one:

  • Determine main idea and details.  Explain how the details support the main idea

  • Determine the meaning of words or phrases as they are used in a text.  Distinguish between literal and nonliteral meanings

  • Describe characters in a story and how their actions contribute to the sequence of events

  • Compare and contrast the theme, setting and plot of stories written by the same author or about the same or similar characters
     

Ongoing skills students will work toward mastering throughout the year:

  • Decoding strategies

  • Reading with accuracy and fluency to support comprehension

  • Ask and answer questions about information

  • Reporting on a topic or text

  • Read and comprehend fiction and nonfiction texts

  • Engage in collaborative discussions

Math - Quarter two

Students will work toward mastering the following concepts:

  • Interpret products of multiplication

  • Multiply one digit whole numbers by multiples of 10

  • Interpret whole number quotients of whole numbers

  • Use multiplication and division within 100 to solve word problems

  • Understand the relationship between multiplication and division

  • Determine the unknown whole number in a multiplication or division equation

  • Apply properites of operations as strategies to multiply and divide (commutative, associative, distributive).

  • Fluently multiply and divide within 100

Literacy - Quarter two

Students will work toward mastering the following concepts during quarter one:

  • Compare and contrast two texts

  • Distinguish their own point of view from that of the narrator, characters, or author of a text

  • Describe relationships (historical events, scientific ideas, steps in technical procedures) using language that pertains to time, sequence and cause/effect.

  • Describe logical connection between particular sentences and paragraphs in a text (comparison, cause/effect, first/second/third in a sequence).
     

Ongoing skills students will work toward mastering throughout the year:

  • Ask and answer questions about information
